PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for purifying glycine capable of recovering glycine from an alkali metal salt of glycine containing at least an alkali metal salt of iminodiacetic acid in a good efficiency, and obtaining a high purity glycine crystal without reducing the glycine recovery rate in the crystallization operation. SOLUTION: This method for selectively recovering glycine by performing an ion exchange of glycine and iminodiacetic acid from an aqueous solution containing the alkali metal salt of glycine and at least the alkali metal salt of iminodiacetic acid by using a weakly acidic cation exchange resin, then recovering glycine by using a weakly basic anion exchange resin is characterized by adjusting≤100 wt.ppm/glycine group ammonia concentration in the aqueous solution.
