PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water quality improving device for a washing machine which, when soiled clothing is washed, can impart activating action, affinity, penetration ability, etc., to tap water or remaining water of a bathtub to impart additional detergency to water per se and thus to significantly reduce the necessary amount of a detergent. SOLUTION: A water quality improving device for a washing machine, comprising a water quality improving material packed into a hollow container of a flexible synthetic resin with a number of water-permeable holes being bored, is introduced into a washing tub and is stirred together with soiled clothing to impart additional detergency to water per se in the washing tub.
