PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To satisfactorily separate and remove contaminants from soil by adding water to contaminated soil and mixing and stirring it in a device for cleaning the contaminated soil in which the soil deposited with the contaminant is cleaned and remediated. SOLUTION: A moisture content and a weight are measured by a moisture content measuring tool 6 and a weight measuring tool 7 during conveying of the contaminated soil by a belt feeder 2 and the contaminated soil is thrown into a washing tank 4. Whereas, a flow rate F of washing water flowing in a water feed line 3 to the washing tank 4 is measured by a flow rate measuring tool 9. In the water-feed control system 11, an opening of an adjustment valve 10 is controlled such that the soil in the washing tank 4 becomes a set washing moisture content based on these measurement values and an amount of water-feed to the washing tank 4 is adjusted. In the washing tank, the contaminated soil and the washing water are mixed and stirred, appropriate friction is generated between the soil particles and the contaminant deposited on the surface of the soil is peeled off from the soil. Thereafter, the contaminant can be effectively removed from the soil by separating the soil from the washing water containing the contaminant. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
