PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a press machine of a servo motor drive type which can be promptly shifted to the actual production of a prescribed product and is easily operated while extremely reducing die breakages in tryout. SOLUTION: The press machine is formed such that the present position of a slide can be detected in the normal rotation state of a motor and whether or not the detected slide present position is at a position before a bottom dead center position can be judged. It is formed such that, in the case that press work confirmation signals are inputted and also it is judged that the detected slide present position is at the position before the bottom dead center position, changeover to a motor reverse rotation state is performed and the slide is returned to a set point position on a top dead center side and elevated.
