PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent inducing coating defects such as coating nonuniformity caused by an undesirable mechanism that mist produced by scraping off a coating liquid sprayed on paper from an applicator with a doctor blade in a jet fountain applicator type blade coater for the manufacture of coated paper forms coating material dreg by an air current to deposit around a lip part of the applicator to disarrange the flow of the coating liquid sprayed from the applicator. SOLUTION: A baffle plate 8 for dividing a space into halves between the applicator 3 and the doctor blade 5 is provided to prevent the mist of the coating liquid 4 from reaching the lip parts 3a, 3b of the applicator 3. Communicating holes 8d each having a proper shape are provided at a proper interval on the baffle plate 8 to uniformly introduce air to the applicator side above halved space A from the doctor blade side above halved space B to uniformalize the pressure in the space A.
