PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem of a line type ink jet head that the entire ink jet head is required to move from a print position on a print medium to other position, the size as a printer is increased, movement of the line type ink jet head itself is not preferable in view point of the print position accuracy, and the cost is increased due to its structure. SOLUTION: In an ink jet printer having an on demand line type ink jet head, a wiping member holding an ink solvent is inserted periodically between the nozzle face and a print medium and touched to the nozzle face, as a countermeasure against dry up of the nozzle face, thus dissolving solidified or thickened ink or lowering the viscosity thereof.
