PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating material pan for a roll coater with which a coating film free from defects caused by the splash of a coating material is formed. SOLUTION: The side wall 11 of the coating material pan 10 is retreated from a long sized material-to-be-coated S side, the tip of a flange 12 projected from the side wall 11 toward the long sized material-to-be-coated S is erected to form an edge part 14, and a partition plate 13 is provided in the base end side of the flange 12 to have a gap G. The partition plate 13 is arranged in a physical relationship to intercept a tangential line to an applicator roll 3 which passes the base point A of the flange 12 and a straight line formed by connecting an apex B of the flange 12 to the base point A. Because the splash F is not dispersed and stuck on the long sized material-to-be-coated S, the defects such as the incorporation of foreign matter and film thickness abnormality are prevented.
