PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer capable of preventing influence of humidity on an edge face of a roll of recording paper. SOLUTION: Paper holders 15, 16 having flexible flanges 15a, 16a formed thereon are fitted to both end faces of the roll of recording paper 12, respectively. During a standby time period of printing, a part having a small radius of a cam member 51 is brought into contact with coupling sections of link levers 46, 47. The link levers 46, 47 rotate around shaft attachment sections 46b, 47b by a force of a spring 49 and allow flange pressing members 43, 44 coupled to the end sections to be slid with respect to support shafts 40, 41 and to be pressed against the flanges 15a, 16a. The flanges 15a, 16a are elastically deformed to be brought into intimate contact with the outermost periphery of the recording paper roll 12 so that the end faces of the roll of recording paper 12 are covered.
