PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve problems wherein it is hard to confirm whether or not a label paper is adequately set in a region of a recording start position in the setting of the label paper in a label printer or the like, the paper is not supplied to a printer body in the case where the paper is positioned to a portion short of the region of the recording start position even when the operation for setting the paper is performed, and the recording is not performed on the first paper and the paper is wasted in the case where the amount of the supplied paper is excessive. SOLUTION: A recording medium is fed until the tip portion of the recording medium is detected by an optical sensor, and then the recording medium is set to the recording start position by a back-feed means so that the reliability for setting the paper is improved by a paper setting means.
