<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a methane fermentation method that reduces the concentration of carbon dioxide from a biogas obtained by methane fermentation without using an expensive solvent or a large amount of water, and an apparatus therefor. <P>SOLUTION: In the methane fermentation method for organic wastewater or waste, a part of the internal liquid of a methane fermentation tank 1 is taken out and treated under reduced pressure lower than atmospheric pressure in a vacuum treatment means 3 to remove carbon dioxide dissolved in the internal liquid. Thereafter, the treated internal liquid is again returned to the methane fermentation tank 1.
