PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a position identifying device capable of identifying four positions while saving the space without requiring any extra sensor, and to provide a recorder comprising that position identifying device. SOLUTION: The position identifying device comprises a body section 1 having two cam parts (11, 21) of different shape arranged while being shifted in the back/forth direction in the side view and taking four positions through rotation, and sensors (10, 20) arranged on the rotational track of the cam parts (11, 21) and capable of identifying the on/off state based on contact/noncontact with the cam parts (11, 21) wherein four positions of the body section 1 can be identified through combination of on/off states of respective sensors.
