PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a memory capacity of an image buffer assigned to a dot forming part in a serial printer having different dot forming parts arranged at different positions in a horizontal scanning direction of a printing head. SOLUTION: A start request circuit 29 outputs a start request signal when a subtracted value from a counter 25 becomes 0 and an end request circuit 31 outputs an end request signal when a subtracted value from a counter 27 becomes 0 to a read circuit 33 respectively. When the start request signal from the request circuit 29 is inputted, the read circuit 33 starts reading out dot image data from the image buffer 19B and starts driving a nozzle array 5B by the data. When the end request signal from the request circuit 31 is inputted, the read circuit 33 ends reading out data from the buffer 19B and stops driving the nozzle array 5B. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
