PURPOSE: Provided is a pharmaceutical composition containing substituted PEG-interferon α conjugates as an effective ingredient for the treatment or prevention of interferon-susceptible diseases. CONSTITUTION: Substituted PEG-IFN α conjugates are represented by the formula(1). In formula, R and R1 are independently C1-6 lower alcohol; X and X1 are independently nonpolar amino acid or none; polyethylene glycol has an average molecular weight of 22,000 to 66,000 daltons; and a, n1 and m are each integers and the total sum thereof equals 300 to 1,400. The pharmaceutical composition for the treatment or prevention of interferon-susceptible diseases contains the substituted PEG-IFN α conjugates and a therapeutically inactive carrier.
