A method for monitoring the operating condition of a blast furnace, wherein the quantities of state measured by a plurality of sensors installed in the blast furnace are disposed on a two-dimensional plane or on a three-dimensional body formed by joining two-dimensional planes, which reflects the installed position of each sensor, to display the distribution and dynamic variation of the quantities of state as a figure or as characteristic information about a figure, which is evaluated, thereby monitoring the operating condition of the blast furnace. A spatial gradient of either pressure or temperature or both, which are potential quantities, or time-related space is calculated, and the norms or angles of deflection of vectors each having this gradient as its component are calculated, and of the contour figures formed by isograms of the norms or angles of deflection, one which is determined by pre-specified upper and lower limit control values is assumed to be a fusion zone root-corresponding position. |
