PURPOSE: A method and apparatus for reducing the power consumption of a slot mode mobile terminal is provided to minimize the power consumption of a mobile terminal, and to efficiently process sleep/wake-up transition procedures. CONSTITUTION: In a wake-up state, a mobile terminal monitors an allocated paging slot and confirms whether a paging channel message exists. If the paging channel message doesn't exist, the control part of the mobile terminal determines to enter a sleep mode and generates a sleep mode determination signal(S0). Then the control part sets a hardware parameter to make a communication-associated circuit part entered to the sleep mode. If the setting of the hardware parameter is completed, the control part generates a sleep mode indication signal(S8). If the sleep mode indication signal(S8) is generated, the communication-associated circuit part directly enters the sleep mode without the necessity of waiting the next PN circular signal(S5). Accordingly, the communication-associated circuit part can reduce the power consumption as much as a time of T2. |
