PURPOSE: A hollow piston for a swash plate compressor is provided to improve the performance of the compressor by decreasing inertia in reciprocating with reducing the weight of the piston, and to cut down manufacturing cost by simplifying the manufacturing process. CONSTITUTION: A hollow piston(80) of a swash plate compressor comprises a bridge part(81) combined with the edge of a swash plate(6), and a head part(82) extended from the bridge part and inserted to a bore of a cylinder block(3). The end of the bore is closed, and an inner part(30) is protruded from the piston. The head part is fitted to the inner part, and the end of the head part is opened. A compression chamber(82a) is formed in the head part, and closed by the inner part. The hollow piston generates positive or negative pressure alternately in the compression chamber by reciprocating with axially moving the swash plate. Performance of the compressor is improved by reducing inertia in reciprocating with reducing the weight of the piston.
