<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic still camera capable of imaging at a more appropriate exposure even while keeping the cost low. <P>SOLUTION: Pixels 50b, 50c of a second group are placed at a middle region and surrounding regions and ND (Neutral Density) filters 59 are placed to the pixels 50b of the second group at their object side in the surrounding regions so that the strength of a light made incident onto the pixels 50b of the second group at the surrounding regions is lower than the strength of a light made incident onto the pixels 50c of the second group at the middle region when the light with the uniform strength is emitted to the pixels 50b, 50c of the second group in each region. Thus, Photometry is applied to each of a plurality of regions on a photographed image so as to attain more proper exposure in comparison with the case of applying photometry to a single region even if an object whose luminance distribution is extremely deviated and the use of the ND filters 59 permits the similar effect to that of weighted processing for the photometry.
