PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a can body for a secondary battery capable of securing strength and reducing the weight even if a size is increased and capable of preventing the malfunction due to an electrode expansion when charging and discharging, and to provide a secondary battery using the same. SOLUTION: In a secondary battery using a square can body for a secondary battery, thickness of one surface 2 of the can body is formed larger than thickness of surfaces 4a and 4c adjacent to the one surface, and the one surface is provided with an electrode terminal 13, and the adjacent surfaces 4a and 4c are arranged opposite to each other in an electrode group 19 stacking direction.
