SOLUTION: In a method for controlling the air-fuel ratio of an internal combustion engine, fuel injection is operated based on at least the air intake estimated based on the opening of the throttle valve and an engine speed, the fuel injection is corrected at least by the air-fuel ratio feedback correction factor, and the air-fuel ratio is controlled thereby. When the throttle valve is opened from a low load running condition while the air-fuel ratio feedback correction factor reduces the fuel injection, the air-fuel ratio feedback correction factor is changed to a value in the vicinity of the control center value of the air-fuel ratio feedback correction factor at a control speed higher than a control speed in a normal running condition other than an idling condition.
