PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent irreversible demagnetization in permanent magnets in starting a self-starting, permanent-magnet, synchronous motor. SOLUTION: Slots 17 between poles are extended to the vicinity of respective holes 15 for burying permanent magnets. The slots 17 between poles are so controlled that maximum widths of the slots 17 in proximity to the permanent magnet burying holes 15 are larger than minimum widths the slots 17 positioned outside portions in proximity to the permanent magnet burying holes 15.
