PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber cable which suppresses movement of ribbon cores even under severe environment conditions and makes the ribbon cores hard to draw in or protrude. SOLUTION: The optical fiber cable having ribbon cores stored in grooves 12 of a grooved rod type member 10 is characterized in that the grooves 12 comprises a unidirectional spiral groove 12a whose spiral pitch is larger than one pitch and an inversion groove 12b which is inverted in spiral direction from the unidirectional spiral groove and whose pitch is less than one pitch which are formed alternately along the length. The ribbon cores are given an extra length for the unidirectional spiral groove 12a in a section where it is stored in the unidirectional spiral groove 12a. The ribbon core is curved in S shape by the inversion groove 12b to restrict the movement along the length. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
