PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain parallel light which has a small beam diameter. SOLUTION: An optical fiber collimator 10 is constituted so that a GRIN lens 12 is positioned at an end part of an optical fiber 11, the optical fiber 11 increases in core diameter from nearby its end surface to the end surface, and the GRIN lens 12 has a center length shorter than the center length of a GRIN lens of 0.25P to an optical fiber which has no increase in core diameter. Consequently, light can be propagated in the form of parallel light with a small beam diameterαand opposite coupling loss can be made small. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
