PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a damage evaluation method and apparatus for a metallic material that can accurately predict a remaining life. SOLUTION: The method for evaluating the defect of the metallic material enables the determination of damage distribution by inspecting the inside damage state of the metallic material, and estimation of the inside shape of the metallic material based on the damage distribution. With exhibiting the inside of the metallic material with an intergranular model, the method enables the calculation of a breaking progress process of each of these intergranular models by providing stress calculated to each of the intergranular models based on the inside shape of the metallic material.
