PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly reliable data storage device by changing over an input part of a reproduction amplifier for a magnetoresistive effect head of a hard disk drive in accordance with the head characteristic, a recording signal frequency, a recording medium, etc. SOLUTION: The amplifier for the magnetoresistive effect head of the data storage device is provided with a 1st bias circuit 1 for supplying a bias current to a 1st terminal of a magnetoresistive effect head element, a 1st switch 2 connected to a 2nd terminal of the above head element so as to enable the selection of other connecting ends, a 2nd bias circuit 3 for supplying the bias current to the 2nd terminal of the head element through the above 1st switch, a 2nd switch 4 connectable to the 2nd terminal of the head element or a reference voltage source, and an initial stage amplifier circuit 5 for amplifying the voltage difference between the 1st terminal of the head element and the 2nd switch to output a read signal.
