PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the unnecessary electric charges of a vertical transfer section included in an output signal from a solid-state imaging apparatus without decreasing a saturation signal of a photoelectric conversion element. SOLUTION: An electronic shutter and a closed lens set the accumulation time C in a frame mode for an exposure period, and the vertical transfer section reads the signal electric charges of the photoelectric conversion element corresponding to odd number fields in a first field, and transfers and outputs the signal electric charges. The vertical transfer section reads the signal electric charges of the photoelectric conversion element corresponding to even number fields in a second field, and transfers and outputs the signal electric charges. The main signal and unnecessary signal of the vertical transfer section are outputted together in the first and second fields. The storage time identical with that for the exposure period is set in a third field. Unnecessary charges existing in the vertical transfer section are transferred and outputted in fourth and fifth fields. By canceling the unnecessary charges in signal processing at a post stage to obtain only the main signal, the main signal with less noise can be obtained. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
