PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small-sized microscope apparatus which provides clear images. SOLUTION: A spot light source 220 comprising an LED, etc., is fixed by means of a holder to a body 200. The light from the light source 220 heads through a lens 221 toward a half mirror 241. The luminous flux reflected 90°by the half mirror 241 arrives at the examinee 204 through an objective lens 218 of a body tube 205. The luminous flux reflected by the examinee 204 tracks back the same optical path and heads toward a pentagonal prism 245 through the half mirror 241. The luminous flux reflected by the prism 245 forms the image at a photoreceiving body 231, such as a CCD, through a first mirror 242, an image formation lens 243 and a second mirror 244. Since the luminous flux from the spot light source 220 has high directictivity, the uniform illumination is eventually received evenly on the observation surface of the examinee and if there is a shape change, such as a flaw, the dark part by a shade is formed in a contour segment.
