<p>The procedure for identifying digital images includes attaching an identification code to an image. This is an alphanumeric code which enables automatic reading of information relating to the image, its author(s) and their legal rights and the purchaser. Such information can be supplemented by a record of the actual published use of the image. The procedure for identifying digital images includes attaching an identification code to an image when it is acquired for publication. This identification code, called an image publication code, is an alphanumeric code which enables automatic reading of information relating to the image, its author(s) and their legal rights, the purchaser, the publication medium, those responsible for publication, the conditions of acquisition of the image and the publication context. All this information can be retrieved automatically from the publication code. An image only has such a code, if it has been acquired for publication, otherwise it may carry a code which is different from a full publication code. Further information may be included in the publication code, including the dates and details of published use of the image.</p> |
