PURPOSE: A method for processing Hangul caption is provided to encode and decode Unicoded caption data, and reduce the capacity of a memory by using a combination code conversion table. CONSTITUTION: A TV or a VCR(Video Cassette Recorder) receives caption data recorded on a master tape and reproduced by a VTR for broadcasting(S41). The caption data is inputted for Unicode caption processing(S42). A 21st line of an NTSC(National Television System Committee), odd field of the inputted image signal is searched(S43). The caption data of 9 bits x 2 are sliced(S44). An error is searched by parity bit check(S45). If the error is generated, the error is processed(S46). If no error is generated, complete 2 byte text is output from which parity bit is removed(S47). The extracted text data is decoded by using a combination code conversion table(S48). The corresponding characters are read from a combination font ROM(S49). An image of each text is displayed on the TV(S50).
