<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and device for determining a contact force of a work tool. <P>SOLUTION: The force of the work tool when it contacts a surface is determined. At least one non-contact force applied on the work tool is determined. A correction factor is determined as at least one function of the non-contact force. A contact made between the work tool and the surface is determined.
