PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotary shock absorber, which absorbs energy to cushion the shock only in a predetermined rotational range angle at both ends where the rotation of a gyratory machine or a gyratory mechanism stops, and which hardly absorbs the energy in the other rotational angle range, so as to freely rotate the machine or the like. SOLUTION: The rotary shock absorber 10 comprises: a main body case 11; a partition wall portion 13 for partitioning a space formed between the main body case 11 and a shaft portion 12 disposed to be relatively rotatable in the main body case 11; a vane 14 projecting from the shaft portion 12 and disposed to divide the space partitioned by the partition wall portion 13 into two chambers; and a first reflux groove 12d disposed in an outer circumference excluding prescribed ranges on both sides sandwiching the vane 14 of the shaft portion 12, to form a clearance in which viscous liquid is refluxed between the shaft portion and the partition wall portion 13.
