PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To adaptively control the directivity of an array antenna without requiring a reference signal even when a transmitted radio signal is modulated by a modulation method including digital amplitude modulation. SOLUTION: An adaptive control type controller 20 calculates a power ratio R respectively concerning power values at two signal points in the mutually different combination of received signals during one frame period on the basis of received signals y(t), calculates discrete power ratios R<SB>1</SB>, R<SB>2</SB>,..., R<SB>max</SB>from the respective calculated power ratios R with the time average value or ensemble average value of minimum values in the absolute values of subtracted values as a target function value, calculates and sets the reactance value of respective variable reactance elements 12-1 to 12-6 by using a maximum grade method to direct the main beam of an esper antenna device 100 toward a desired wave and to direct a null toward interference for substantially minimizing the target function value.
