EXHAUST EMISSION CONTROL DEVICE FOR INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust emission control device for an internal combustion engine capable of sufficiently performing HC purification even with a lean NOx catalyst using metal base substrate.

SOLUTION: The device arranges the lean NOx catalyst 3 which carries a catalyst layer purifying nitrogen oxide in exhaust gas on a metal honey comb (metal substrate) under an excess oxygen atmosphere along the direction of an exhaust gas flow to an exhaust passage 2 of the internal combustion engine, and a reaction catalyst (oxidation catalyst) 4 which performs the oxidation reaction of at least hydrocarbon (HC) in exhaust gas.
