PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a back projection type video display and a video light generation optical unit thin and to facilitate their optical axis adjustment. SOLUTION: The video light generation optical unit U is provided with a lighting optical system 1, a video light generation optical system 2 which obtains illumination light from the lighting optical system 1 and generates video light, an L type projection optical system 3 which obtain the video light from the video light generation optical system 2 and projects enlarged video light at right angles to the input direction of the video light, and an aspherical surface mirror 4 which is provided nearby the L type projection optical system 3 and reflects the projection video light, and those are connected and fixed in one body through a base 5.
