PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the sealing performance of cast cavities by widening a sealing surface corresponding to a joint surface on the side where the cast cavities have occurred. SOLUTION: The metal gasket 10 comprises full beads 13 provided around combustion chamber holes 12 and stepped half beads 15 provided on the outer periphery. The metal gasket 10 is mounted between the joint surfaces of a cylinder head and a cylinder block and fastened with fastening bolts for sealing between the joint surfaces. The two half beads 15 are arranged with protruded flat portions 16 between the adjacent half beads 15. One outside bead of the two half beads 15 is gradually lowered near bolt insertion holes 14 for fastening bolts and cut on its way, and the remaining half bead 15 is continued to run along the periphery.
