PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for reading images, which effectively improves the read efficiently. SOLUTION: The apparatus has: an image read means 107 for read images in a single sheet read condition, a control means 100 instructing to read images in a plurality of sheets read condition, and an image processing means 110 for processing images read by the read means 107. The control means 100 generates the single sheet read condition when a relative relation of the plurality of sheets read condition meets a certain criterion. The read means 107 reads images once under the single sheet read condition. The processing means 110 generates a plurality of sheets of images corresponding to the plurality of sheets read condition from the one image read under the single sheet reading condition.
