PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device capable of suppressing the occurrence of an afterimage and a tailing by compensating the optical response characteristic of a liquid crystal display panel while enabling data emphasis by accelerated drive even with respect to input image data to be shifted to the vicinity of a low gradation or high gradation. SOLUTION: In the liquid crystal display device which at least compares input picture data of one vertical period before with input picture data of a current vertical period and which converts the input picture data into enhanced data based on an enhanced conversion parameter to be obtained from the compared result, and thereafter, performs the accelerated drive of a liquid crystal display panel 5 by outputting the enhance data to the liquid crystal display panel 5, this device is provided with a gradation converting part 8 converting the number of gradation of the input picture data smaller than the number of display gradation of the display panel 5.
