PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a correction method for correcting transmission loss characteristics measured under the effects of variation and lowering of light power level of light source, suppressing the increase of cost. SOLUTION: Light emitted from a light source 31 is introduced in an optical fiber cable 11 to be measured via a light branching means 33 and a dummy fiber cable 5. The light level at an arbitrary position of the dummy fiber cable 5 among the light levels calculated from the returned reflection light or scattered light, and preset reference light level of the light source 31 are compared. When the light level of the dummy fiber cable 5 is dropped lower than the reference light level, the light level returned from the optical fiber cable to be measured is corrected according to the dropped value to define on the light power level- time coordinates and is output to a display 13.
