PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small rotary damper exerting large braking force. SOLUTION: In this rotary damper, a shaft portion 21 is disposed to be rotatable in a main body case 10, and partition wall portions 14 are projected from the shaft portion 21 and disposed between the shaft portion 21 and the main body case 10. Space partitioned by the shaft portion 21 and the partition walls 14 is filled with viscous liquid. A rotating member 20 that has vanes 22 disposed to divide the space into chambers 51, 52 rotates to exert predetermined braking force. The main body case 10 and the rotary member 20 are made of metal material, and an elastic seal layer 30 is disposed to a slide- contact portion of the main body case 10 and rotary member 20.
