PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control a valve opening to a target value even when an amplifier is not normally functioned. SOLUTION: A control device of an internal combustion engine comprises a throttle valve, an actuator to open/close the throttle valve, a sensor to detect the opening of the throttle valve and output a signal according to the detected opening, and an amplifier to amplify vibration detected by the sensor. The control device has a selecting means to select either the signal according to the detected opening or the amplified signal. The opening of the throttle valve is feedback-controlled to the target value according to a selected signal. The selecting means selects not the amplified signal, but the signal according to the detected opening if the condition of low reliability of the amplified signal is detected. Thus, in the condition of low reliability of the amplified signal, the valve is controlled based on the opening signal detected by the sensor. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
