PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the size of a used fuel storage facility, and to reduce a cost for constructing the storage facility. SOLUTION: The used fuel storage facility stores a stockpile of a metallic storage vessels housing a part or most of the fuel by reducing capacity more than a shape of a fuel assembly by forming powdery uranium oxide, plutonium oxide, and fission product oxide by processing a used fuel assembly. The storage facility area can be reduced to about 1/40 as compared with a case of storing used fuel as it is, by reducing stockpile capacity to 1/20 by storing metallic vessels housing the powdery uranium oxide, the plutonium oxide, and the fission product oxide by processing the used fuel assembly.
