CONTROLLER FOR VARIABLE VALVE TIMING MECHANISM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent degradation in responsiveness under the influence of input torque from a camshaft in a variable valve timing mechanism. SOLUTION: A spiral radial link type variable valve timing mechanism varies a rotational phase of the camshaft by engaging a slide portion at a tip of a link arm connecting the camshaft and a timing sprocket in a spiral guide groove and relatively rotating a guide plate with the spiral guide groove to displace the slide portion radially and thus displace a pivotal support portion at the other link arm end circumferentially. A controlled variable of an electromagnetic brake for relatively rotating the guide plate is corrected in dependence on an engine speed and a valve lift. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
