<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily prepare or update an addressee list written with information about an addressee. <P>SOLUTION: An address and a name of the addressee are read as an image data from a scanner. An area where the image data is converted into character information is extracted, and a category such as the 'name' and the 'address' are assigned to the area (step S22), and converted into the character information (step S26).
