PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide rolling elements for traction drive capable of transmission of large power and having a high traction characteristic. SOLUTION: The rolling elements (input disk 3, output disk 5, and power roller 6) for traction drive transmit power via traction oil between rolling surfaces. In relation to a surface micro shape of the rolling surfaces for transmitting the power of at least one of the rolling elements on the drive side and on the driven side, the cross sectional curve shape that is measured by a surface roughness meter and obtained without passing through a filter is a shape in which recessed parts as grooves and projecting parts as projecting strips are alternately arranged. A shape of the projecting parts over a center line of the cross sectional curve is one of a substantial trapezoid having round corners, a substantially crowning shape, a substantially elliptic arc shape, a substantially sine wave shape, and a substantial triangle having a round apex.
