A heat-sensitive recording material having a heat-sensitive recording layer containing, an electron-donating colorless dye, an electron-accepting compound being capable of reacting with the dye to effect coloring and a sensitizer, characterized in that it satisfies at least one of the following requirements of (1) to (3): (1) an image being heat-printed with a specific application energy exhibits an image density of 1.20 or more, and can be used in a recording device having a printing rate of 10 cm/sec or more, (2) it exhibits an image concentration of 0.15 or less after it is contacted with a heat source having a temperature of 70 °C for 5 seconds, and the sensitizer is 2-benziloxynaphthalene or the like, and (3) the electron-accepting compound is represented by the formula: R1-Ph-SO2R2 wherein R1 represents a hydroxyl group or an alkyl group, R2 represents -Ph, -NH-Ph, -Ph-OR3, or -NH-CO-NH-Ph, R3 represents an alkyl group, and Ph represents a phenyl group which may be substituted with a substituent including -SO2R2, and has a volume average particle diameter of 0.5 to 1.0 microm.
