The invention relates to a method of treating a part comprising at least one property, in at least one zone to be treated, which can be altered when the aforementioned zone is subjected to a thermal energy density that is greater than a determined treatment level, said zone being located deep under the surface of the part. The inventive method consists in: placing the part to be treated (1) at a thermal energy level that is lower than said determined level (7); and subjecting the part to a power flux (4), in the form of at least one pulse, through the surface thereof for a determined amount of time, said power flux (4) being generated by a particle emission means (3). The aforementioned emission means is regulated so as to produce a thermal energy density (5) which is concentrated or which has a localised maximum in the zone to be treated and which reaches a level, in at least one part of said zone, which is greater than the determined treatment level.
