A process for applying a mantle around longitudinal components, comprises two strip shaped sections that surround the components. The two cover sections are welded, clamped and/or adhered at their seams, and one or both sections have self adhesive bands. A roller unit is used to apply the mantle around the longitudinal components, and consists of a holder for two rollers, an application unit for locating the cover sections, and stamping members.
