Coumpounds, compositions and methods for modulating the activity of nuclear receptors are provided. In particular, heterocyclic compounds are provided for modulating the activity of nuclear receptors, including liver X receptor (LXR) and orphan nuclear receptors. In certain embodiments, the compounds are N-substituted pyridones.
