An aliquot vessel array (102) having a base plate (116) with an upper surface (117) and lower surface (115) with a pair of parallel sidewalls (118). A pair of parallel rails (136) depends downwardly from the base plate (116), and each rail (136) has a foot section (138) at its lower extremity. An array of open test wells (128) are formed on the base plate (116) between the pair of parallel sidewalls (118) and extend upwardly from the base plate (116). The sidewalls (118) are attached to the array of open wells (128) by notched side flanges (121), which mate with the foot section (138) of the rails (136).
