The vehicle rack steering system has a pressure unit (13) in a housing (8), to keep the rack (12) constantly meshing with the pinion (9) as it slides longitudinally. Each end of the rack is linked to a steering tie rod. Sealing bellows are at both sides of the housing, each attached to the housing on one side and to the steering tie rod at the other side. The rack pressure unit has an integrated pressure compensator (14) with a setting screw (18) within a recess (15). The pressure compensator is a tablet of a sintered plastics material.
