An immigration board game (10) and method for playing it where the players live through the difficulties as they adjust to the American way. The game is played on a board (20) with each player's token advancing over contiguously disposed spaces. Each player is assigned a unique legal status (32, 33, 34, 35, 36, 37, 38 or 39) through aleatory means. Spaces are associated with penalties and rewards. Some of the spaces direct players to cards (82, 84 and 86). One set of cards includes cards with non-pecuniary penality. Choices are given for players to choose sets with or without pecuniary rewards depending on whether the player wants to take chances with immediate economic rewards or improvements in legal status.
